Lubbock FUMC First Day at Tranquilidad

First Day at Tranquilidad

This is all the youth girls in our team, before we left to start working.

This is all the youth guys on the porch of the orphanage, right after we arrived , sporting their headgear to begin working.

This is Kinsey and Bessy in the kitchen. Bessie is a Honduran who wanted to help us out, while improving her English. We loved talking to Bessy and getting to know her, despite the language barrier, and we hope to continue to see her throughout our trip.

These are all the members of our team who completed the task of building a table,  they are proud of the first table that they handmade. We plan to build more furniture throughout the week.

Almost all of our youth helped sand down this new table to get it ready for it's finishing touches.

Kasey is helping to paint a sealant all over the outside of the house, she is in the middle. Mario, our driver, is on the left helping us get the job done. Cecelia, our youth director, is on the right helping out as well.

Andrew (left), and Harrison (right), are making the job of picking up rocks more fun by playing catch.

Callie is also helping paint a sealant on the outside of the house.

This is the beautiful view that we get to see while working. Nelson, the man in the picture, lives right outside the Tranquilidad property, and has a touching story.

Working today has humbled us and changed our perspective on how grateful these Hondurans here are to have this opportunity to work and earn money for their families. It was amazing to see how friendly and willing to help everyone here is. None of the workers here were more concerned about their individual jobs than they were about helping the big picture come together. Even though there was a language barrier between everyone, we were still able to interact and help others with their tasks. Gloria, Leti and Sandra prepared excellent meals throughout the day, and Daniel and Mario have been extremely welcoming. As it started raining, we headed into Quimistan, to actually get an idea of what life is like for everyone living here. We were extremely humbled to see the living situations, and how content they all were to be in the conditions they are. We cannot wait to see what we can do tomorrow, and in what ways we can serve the Lord.
